Future
Zol's Game World What we're thinking about next.
Nothing on this page is a promise. It's a list of things we're actively working through — some further along than others, any of them subject to change or to being dropped entirely. We'd rather show you the workings than go quiet and surprise you later.
True apps
Right now the World lives in your browser, and it works. Real apps on the App Store and Google Play are something we want.
It isn't just a matter of building them. Both stores have approval processes and requirements we'd need to meet, and both take a cut of anything sold through them — a meaningful one, on prices that are already annual and already modest. We're not going to ship apps that quietly cost you more, and we're not going to pretend the math isn't sitting there.
So: we want it, we're working out how it works, and we'll tell you when we know.
Tournaments
Structured competition you opt into. Join, play, and see where you finish against the rest of the field.
Dailies already cover the daily rhythm and Versus covers the head-to-head. Tournaments would be the thing that runs across more than one day and gives you a reason to keep at it.
Achievements
A record of what you've done here. Not a nag, and not a checklist telling you how to play — just a way to see your progress across the games you actually play.
Finding people to play with
This one starts with a rule: nobody gets pulled into anything. If you want to play alone, you can play alone forever, and nothing here will pester you about it.
For everyone else, the idea is a matchup service. You'd get paired with another player, and a chat channel opens for the two of you for the duration of that game — if you want it. When the game ends, the channel retires.
You'd then have the option to add the other person as a friend, gated on both sides. Nobody is forced into a friendship, and turning it down costs you nothing.
There's a related gap we already know about. Friends are currently added by email address, which means adding someone means handing over yours. That isn't good enough, and we're working on it.
Zol's Words
Zol's Words was built around head-to-head from the start. It's versus-only by design, and it's the newest thing here — so it's still taking shape, and it will keep changing while we work out where it wants to go. If tournaments happen, it may turn out to be a natural fit.
The part that doesn't change
Tell us what you want. We read it, we take it seriously, and it shapes what gets built. We can't promise to deliver everything asked for — nobody can promise that honestly — but we can promise to listen.
Let's grow this thing together.
